The "Good Companion" is more than a name; it is literary legacy.

Manufactured by the Imperial Typewriter Company in Leicester, England, the series was first launched in 1932. It was named after J.B. Priestley’s famous book, The Good Companions, published that same year. The resulting collaboration between the author and the manufacturer helped propel Imperial to legendary status.

Step back into the golden age of analog writing with this exceptional Imperial Good Companion Model 4. Evoking the sophisticated, smoke-filled aesthetics of the Mad Men era, this machine is not merely a tool, but a piece of industrial art.

Manufactured in 1960, the Imperial Good Companion 4 exists in the "Goldilocks zone" of Typewriters. The Model 4 is neither too heavy nor too light. It sacrifices nothing in terms of durability yet maintains a compact footprint that won’t dominate your desk. It looks good, feels good, and offers a premium typing experience without requiring a work crew to move it.

This particular Typewriter is finished in a highly desirable, rare "Sea Foam" green metal body—a quintessential mid-century hue. It features a stunning contrast of the yellowish character keys with dark green shift keys and space bar.

The Good Companion series enjoyed a long reign, evolving from the original 1930s model through to the Model 7 (and T variations) in the early 1970s. This Model 4 represents the peak of that evolution—classic styling meeting modern functionality.

This machine features the "Pica" typeface (a slightly larger, readable font with 10 letters to the inch), perfect for manuscripts, letters, and screenplays. The machine is stamped with the Imperial name on the front and the manufacturers mark on the back: "Manufactured by the Imperial Typewriter Company Ltd Leicester England."

The Good Companion also features a 'line-ending-soon' bell that dings with subtle elegance, as you approach the margin, creating a truly memorable typing experience - as is evident from the accompanying video.

This Imperial Good Companion 4 Typewriter comes with an authentic, original tan-coloured carry case, featuring a secure front clasp and a sturdy, working handle for easy transport. An original case is a rarity in the Typewriter world!

The case also has internal locking clamps for the Typewriter to stay secure when packed. Notice the clamps in the accompanying pictures!

Dimensions: 28cm x 30cm x 11cm
